Teaser Vs Theatrical poster

Posters are used as a promotion and marketing method, that includes the different kinds such as teaser and Theatrical poster.
  • Teaser posters-
    •  promotions for a film
    • used to make a sense of mystery and intrigue audience
    • gives limited information away
    • Show and image or symbol to represent the film.
    • May include information like coming soon or the realise date to the film but other than this it keep the information limited
    • It is used to spike interest
  • Theatrical poster
    • The posters will contain more information, this could be the directors to the films stars
    • it will usually follow the typical conventions
    • The poster may give more away
    • More writing will be on the poster
Teaser poster
This is a teaser poster for the 2017 remake of the Disney classic Beauty and the beast, It features the Disney logo above the title in a gold which could represent that it is a film about a princes, so could the style and the font of the title. The fact it says Disney attracts a similar audience to there other films,( adults who have grown up watching Disney and young kids at the current moment ) The teaser doesn't give away the actors or actresses and it doesn't have an exact realise date. The Teaser poster doesn't contain a person only a rose as a symbol( Fans will know the meaning or if they have scene the previous films). This poster doesn't show it but some also give away the director of the film to bring up the films reputation. The main image is a mix of cool blues and whites so that it makes the green and red of the flower stand out. The white also suggests that it is winter or cold that would kill the flower which implies the case is protecting it. The teaser only gives you this small image to make assumptions from and doesn't give away a lot about the film, the rose is the symbol used in this poster. These unanswered questions about the rose and why it needs protecting along with who is the beauty and who is the beast isn't answered, making the viewers want to watch the film and find out more

Theatrical poster
This is the theatrical poster for the same film. It clearly follows more of the conventions of typical poster. The film now has More information presented along the top and the bottom of the poster ( these are here so they don't take away attention from the main image). The title is kept the same and consistent. However now we see The actors. The beauty is clearly the woman in the yellow dress which could symbolise royalty and riches from the bright eye catching colour mixed with the golden bright background. This colour scheme works well with presenting them as royalty and the importance of these two characters. The woman in the dress also address the star appeal as it is a famous actress Emma Watson. The beast contrasts the colours she's wearing to show the difference but they are a royal blue which also highlight his importance in the film. The beast is looking down on the princess ( which use assume from here costume ) this suggests that he is more powerful or it could mean he is more dangerous. There eye contact( as neither are them are looking at each other but are looking into each other eyes ) and body langue suggest romance/ attraction which gives away some of the plot and also the genre of the film. This Poster would be realised closer to the realise date as you can see at the bottom of the poster it now has the exact date , this means people can see the poster and they will remember it and be able to prepare to go and see it on this release day. The information above provides key information about the production and other key things which may influence or convince someone to see the movie.

It also provides the information about what cinemas you can go see it , which means people who want to see it can take all the information from this poster so that they can see the poster and then know everything they need. The poster also tells them about the fact if it can be scene in 3D in IMAX. Meaning it is effective at informing the audience.

Posters use a mix of mise-en scene and editing to construct a simple yet striking part of the film universe to bring it to life for the audience.

The time of realise will be different for the different poster , a teaser trailer will be realised early in production stage, to gain attention and for people to become interested where as the theatrical poster will be realised closer to the time and will contain more information so that the viewers will know what they are to expect in the up coming time of the film.

Many films will have a number of different poster , below is an example of dead pool's teaser and theatrical posters as an example.
