Last filming days

as of the changes that I have had to make to the media product I have had to do some extra filming however I am still using some of the footage I had previously. So over the a couple days I did some clips to add to the changes and fit some footage in with the new genre so that i can edit it and start to form an out look for the trailer.

As my trailer started as a drama it has this kind of peaceful sense and after researching thriller genre i know that a key aspect is a disruption of peace and so that's going to be the beginning of the trailer the normal life and then its going to introduce the problem later on.

However over a weekend period I did some more filming with the new character and I have changed the secondary character to the main character which means I had to get some more footage. The location was the same I used a shed in my garden and then my bathroom and sister bedroom as the other locations for the filming so I don't have locations to update however I may have to add some about the Church i used to show the scenes of being at a funeral or at least morning the death of a friend.

 The weather on both days where clear weather which doesn't really match the darker vibe I was trying to bring across however it made filming clear and if needed I can do some colour correction to the footage.

 The shed I used as the darker setting is on the side of my house. I used it as a dark small confined area for the main character to end up after she is grabbed.

Here are some shots from the filming process Nikita was the secondary character however I have changed her role within in the trailer as I've changed ideas and inspirations. Here are some shots from some of the filming that we have done.



This is the last scheduled filming shoot, as I believe i have the footage to make it however if we need to re film I have allowed time for the after I have started putting it together.

Magazine

I now have some photography for my magazine and have started to process of refining from my draft my final copy.

After changing the colours I still have some of the same text , i have been changing the text and the colours testing what works and what doesn't to find an effective colour scheme which works with the magazine. i like the idea of having pinks and reds as these link to the girly theme of the drama and then which can now fit the thriller.

For the photography I have picked to use the Villain as such the character isn't a villain and is miss understood , they feature on the poster and the magazine as this character and her mental state is the key focus of the film.  so she is the key and main focus of the poster.

through trial and error I have come up with these drafts. I now have a costume which matches the colour theme plus photography which works. having her finger to her lips is to resemble silence or to keep her bad side a secret. The character comes across as nice however isn't and this is meant to resemble that. Compared to the poster she has no make up and the make up and none make up was a choice to represent the characters different sides. Dark lips and a full face of make up is maybe used to be a mask covering her old self and to resemble her new self.

I like the positioning of the image and the blending i used to make it met into the background , I also edited the photo slightly. The shot which is a portrait of the person is eye catching as she makes eye contact with the camera and she has a very piercing eye colour. I also like the red pink colour scheme as it matches the outfit.

However it still isn't fully complete.

Changes which need to be made after this draft

• The writing context isn't fully relevant as it is from older copies and may need to be changed 
• " a teen girls worst nightmare" is used on the poster so I want to change the phrase ( i predre it in the white colour) 
• Add some more stories to the colour 
• Add some detail/ texture/ shadow/ gradient to the plain black background to add to the photo ( although this needs to be tested) 
• change the date to one of relevance 
• Make sure text and images are all linked and work well together as well as specific things being over the top of other. 
• I have also thought about changing the colour as the red and the dark purple/ pink colour don't seem to work to well together. 

After some changed I decided to make this is what I have came back with after looking at the first one and seeing the blue colour i thought about using that and as purple is used in the poster there similar without being the same. The colours red white and blue work well together however could resemble america as a theme as its the colours of the flag and other movie icons such as captain america , however i thought it was a good mix of having a darker red which doesn't stand out to much with a mix of blues. 

However i don't like the edge of the photo and may wish to change this as it would improve the over all look. The photography is meant to be one of the key elements which draws the attention of the readers of the magazine. i may try the magazine with some different photography.

I like the colour added to it as it gives it more of a meaning and it adds to the magazine. however I think that the blue takes away from the image. I picked this photography as it was a medium shot and had the head and shoulders of the actress and this was common when I looked into research so it must have some attractiveness and must be an effective style of photography used in the magazine.




To gain a better understanding of what the audience want I am going to do a focus group so that I can get feedback from the intended target audience.

Poster draft 2

I wanted the same effect on my practice as I did on my photography so I looked into the settings I used for the practice. For the practice I duplicated the same image three times and edited each one a different colour.

Image one wasn't changed it was kept under the same colours and opacity however it was a black and white photo meaning I needed to make my photo black and white so I will need to edit the original photo.

Image two - here is the blending options I used for this image. With layer two I changed the colour opacity and added a purple overlay this gives it the purple colour which matches the title and theme of the cover however mixed with the other changes gives it a cool effect to add to the blurred and double vision look.

Here is my first attempt with my own photography and looking at the image there needs to be some changes. The purple doesn't stand out beer well in the title because of the size of the image meaning I either need to make it smaller or use a different purple. The bottom one as it is blurred may need changing so it doesn't over lap with the blur and look of the photography. However I am pleased with what I have started other than the small changes I need to make.

• edges of the photography need to be smoothed 
• finish the credit bar at the bottom 

Here are some trails I have made since the first try.

After looking at what I was doing I realised the I liked the effect of the second trial however I wasn't happy with how the photography looked now I had edited and changed the shape . I decided the solution to tis was to get rid of the image and then start from the beginning sorting the edges at the start and changing the colours then fining how I want them. from this I also realise that I need to the purple the to be on the clothes or it isn't visible ( at the bottom ) and that the title also needs some editing as there is still some white on the back text. The fact I like has four layer however the photography seems a bit squished where as trial 3 doesn't. So I am going to spend some extra time to achieve the perfect look with the original photo.




This is what I have come to now after some more editing and making the photo new. Using modify and boarder tools I blended the sides better however it isn't as blurry as I would have liked it to be so I shall move it. I like this cover and now all i am going to do is add to the credit bar and change where they over lap to come with a better effect.

The model looks into the camera and remains emotionless and the other layers of her are meant to resemble her mental conflict and other faces and personality. As you can tell from the name. it follows conventions well. It is simplistic and however holds a big message and some unanswered questions.  The dark colours link to the under lying darker theme and how she is in the centre of the light suggests she does have good inside her. Like the background is the good fighting the darkness.

This is the draft with improvements , I have changed the black writing so in the middle so that you can't see white aspects to it, I added to the credit block and although this is pretty much the final draft I will tweet the positioning to make sure it is centred and lined up with an equal distance on either side. I also blended the shoulder better so that it matches the background more such as she coming out from the background. it also removes sharp edges.

The Poster is meant to have a dizzy effect as i used three layers of the same image, i used this to put emphasis on her different kinds of personality which you get a glimpse of in the trailer. The actress is also wearing make up which she doesn't do to much of in the trailer. As were introduced to her we don't see much of her face plus when we see her breaking down she has some make up on her face. This make up is meant to show her covering up her true self and create a new face such as such. That is the characters aim. She believes if she becomes someone else then she can get rid of all her problems and be someone else.

As mentioned I picked purple as the colour for its connotations of mystery, as the genre has this element its not meant to be clear what she suffers from or what she's doing, as the audience can drive to find out about that.

Film credits and title

Before making my trailer i looked at a range of other film trailers and noted down what they include in there titles and credits at the end of the film.

This is what comes at the end of the split trailer. The first text is the name of the film which is split up into sections reflecting the name of the film , the effect also highlights this. A clip from the movie then plays and then the next part of the credits come. They have the same consistency, colour  and font however provide different information. It also includes extra information and relevant information such as the website and the universal logo.

I took from this the text is centred and has some animation to it plus there is a black back ground which makes the text stand out.

This is for a different film genre however it still seems to follow the same style with a plain background although this does have a red hint and animation to the text. The text in the trailer is in gold which brings the connotations of something extravagant which also relates to the name.

 I like the idea of taking the date of the film and putting it on another screen plus the idea of including social media and more.

This one follows the same look as the others however its simple and has much less animation. The text looks hand written and a bit messy however its consistent and contextual to the author. it also includes similar information to the other films which suggests this a convention which i need to take into consideration when making my film trailer as it makes it accurate.



Threw this research i have gained a better idea on what to include while making the end titles and credits. Which will help it look better be more effective and add to the journey my creation is going threw. This also helps me learn better about this to produce a more effective and accurate piece.





I am using After effects to create a title and credits for the trailer.

Title

For this i have the idea to make the title duplicate as to resemble the film name. For colour i am either going to have it white or purple probably in a text. The effects i am going to use is to either make it fade and shake. Plus having multiple copies of the name of the film. as i have been looking at videos and practicing i have had an idea.

• Im going to use purple- i have picked this because of similar reasons to why i have picked it for the poster as it has connotations of mystery but also is that feminine colour which the film still has some themes for teens. 
• The text is going to be in a rough font which may see like it is been scribbled , carved or messily written. Which could be used and interrupted of the sanity of the character who could have wrote it. I have looked at fonts and even in bold there a little thin so i have to look into that to get the right effect 
• for effects I've had the idea to Have one title come up that say Imitation centre of the screen with a black ground 
• however then another one appears over the top and the one behind blues and even blends and disapears
• However i haven't decided if I'm going to have the word all come in at once of if I'm going to have it so that it comes in a path so its like its being written down its self.  

Thriller conventions and infomation

Through planning and other decisions I have decided that I am adding a thriller feel and genre to the film. Adding some twists and some unanswered questions to the trailer. As of this to help me develop my understanding and get the best outcome I have decided to do another post on genre and some more research to help me make a more effective piece.

Poster draft

This is a draft with a placement person for the poster.

I tried red because it represent danger and thought it could look like it was written by a lipstick.

I also tried Purple as it takes awareness to a high level , other connotations include  ethereal, eroticism , illusory , mystical , ominous and mysterious. Which are all key aspects to the film. Purple can also represent fantasy and that what life is to one of the characters they believe they can do anything they want and be anyone they want with out consequences.

I picked the font as it looks like it could be hand written. However isn't neat and precise. Which could resemble the state of the character. The copies and blurred effect are also meant to look disorientating and are meant to relate to the name as its called imitation.   

As i make my final draft i have began to edit colours here are some of the tries i have picked. I tried other colours which could have connotations to do with the characters personality such as reds to represent danger and blue to represent the mellow and cool side of her personality. 

I am going to have this effect, using the triple kind of vision as duplicates. However i am going to use different photography. with a range of colours. The photography is gunna be similar to this however will be the main antagonist of the film. 

changes

After the 7th shoot for the film i realised my film was missing something and have decided to change the genre to a more thriller however having the bases of it being a thriller involving teens.

The plot will still show the strained friendship between two friends as there other friend has died, plus one of the two friends is moving away. Leaving the original friend on there own. then we introduce a new character, a new girl making it look like a typical film with a new student adapting to school life changing it for the current character however it has a twist as this character isn't as normal as they seem as they try to become the dead friend. The main character gets warned and even calls the other character for help however it takes you to clip with a cliff hanger so that we fear for the main character and the New girl.

Some name ideas i had are

• Imitation 
• New girl 
• Ersartz

This also means that colour schemes may have to change as they won't match the current theme, having bright and light pastel colours would work to an extent however they would need the darker theme to it as of the new themes with in the trailer.

Characters 

i would be adding two new character, these would be the new girl plus a friend. Using the friend to establish plot points and connection , while the other character would practically be the antagonist of the trailer.

The current casting is

Maria Hall - Friend moving 

Katie Nizynski- dead friend 

however i am going to add two more character 

Sophie nizynski - this will be the new girl and with her being the sister to the person who is dead it will add to the strange look that she looks like her.

Costume

the Original characters will keep to there style however with new characters and scenes to be filmed there will be more and different costumes. With scenes involving the church there will be darker costumes as its meant to be the sad part of the opening and the black is used to represents the sadness. Other than that the new main characters who's meant to be copying the friend who died starts off really plain and then begins to change and wear things similar to the girl who has died. I will show this by a photo of the two friends and then the person is wearing the same jewellery to represent the copying of the character. 

I have already started changing the magazine and coming up poster ideas. Here is how I've started changing the magazine by working on using feminine colours while also having that darker feel to it. Having dark purples and pinks and reds. The photography and the background haven't been fully decided yet. I have taken the information from my current drafts and have used those to change the colour however for the actual one information on the magazine will be better and be more relevant.  

Also there are some more shots that will need to film that i can use with my current filming. 

• more scenes at a church to show the morning of the friend and maybe showing the new girl on looking
• establishing the girl is new she's going to ask the main characters about the town and about the dead girl

Filming day 7

after looking over the previous material I have I figured there was some scenes I needed to add. So I arranged to do some filming in a time which was available for the characters. We spent a day filming. The filming done so far may not match the shooting schedule however this is because of events which keep coming up which may stop us from filming on the intended days.

On this day we filled some shots I needed to fill in the trailer, plus some key points in the plot and trailer. Here is a list of things we filmed

• The leaving scene- a simple exchange of goodbyes between the characters, waving to each other as one leaves with a suitcase. I used medium long shots to long shots testing what would be best. Having a shot that includes the suitcase as the character leaves works well as it shows and indication of one of them leaving for a long time as they have things.
• Another scene filmed was the main character using a type writer and a computer , a key component to the film is that the main character has aspirations to be a writer. These shots introduce us to the character and can be put through out to resemble the writing journey of the character
• There a clip of the two friend discussing that one of them wants to be a writer its causal and just gives the audience the idea of that they will follow the character as they try to use the tragedy they have faced to achieve there dream.

through filming my ideas have changed and developed meaning that the plot has been changing.  I have decided that i am going to change Part of the genre adding a thriller kind of theme to the trailer as i have came up with some ideas to add to the story line. What i have already doesn't really leave anything to the imagination so having something with mystery to it while also keeping the ground of work of the film including teenagers means that i can keep and use the footage that i already have. I will do a blog post to update on the plot change the added characters , change of setting and more. This also means i will need new images and a new outlook on the poster and the magazine however i can still keep the conventions and layout. so that it works with what i have already created it just means name changes and colours may have to change as they will only fit the current idea before the change.
